We had a question in the Strengths for Writers Facebook group about tricking our Futuristic into accomplishing that future, and I shared something there that I wanted to share here.
As a high Futuristic/Strategic, I do something I call “One Thing Today.”
Given that my goal is X (or my hope of what I want to accomplish in the future), what’s One Thing Today, I can do, to make that “X” happen. And then I want to make sure, every day, I ask myself that question.
I usually do this when I’m in the mood to make some big change, or when I have a really big Futuristic thing I’m planning or hoping for. And I have to make sure to ask myself that question (I have a sticky note up for it).
And of course, because I’m Becca, I say, “keep the ‘goals’ or ‘hopes’ to a small number” just so we are likely to continue to make progress on them. But sometimes the reason we don’t end up with the future we’re hoping for is because we’re trying to change too much, and sometimes the reason is because we haven’t started the change yet.
So… try this.
Just do One Thing Today that will move you closer to where you want to be.
OTT.
It’s like QTP, but for your future. 😉
